dsquared turns four!
Denise Davies, founder of dsquared, reflects on some key lessons learned during four years in business.
I am delighted to share that this month marks dsquared’s fourth year in business. And what a journey it has been. It all started with a laptop on my kitchen island in 2020 during a pandemic. I had one client and a vision to offer outsourced marketing services to help businesses thrive.
Fast-forward four years, and I have been fortunate to work with clients in the energy, finance, property, and healthcare sectors. As I reflected on four years in business, I revisited the blog I wrote after one year, and I have to say that the points I covered still stand—keep building on your network, keep growing as a person, be bold, and love what you do.
So, what else would I add to that list with three more years of experience under my belt?
Work with superstars
Whether it’s a corporate rebrand, the launch of a new company, or the execution of a communications plan, I’m fortunate to work with incredible creative associates who help bring our clients’ brands to life.
dsquared is an outsourced marketing business that tailors marketing services to the unique needs of each client. We understand that no ‘one size fits all’ approach works, so we pull together the right team for each project.
Collaborating with experts in their field helps me grow my skill set. I’m constantly fascinated by the creativity of the team around me.
Celebrate success
As Ferris Bueller said: “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it”.
When you’re in the weeds spinning the plates and delivering client projects, it’s easy just to keep moving forward and not look back.
It’s important to celebrate when things go well. Over the last four years, I’ve had the privilege of working with amazing clients. I’ve been proud to help them achieve their goals by supporting them in launching unique brands, attaining growth, and expanding into new regions and sectors.
I wouldn’t be where I am now without the support and belief of my clients and the associates I work with. Thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey so far.
Trust your gut feeling
If it feels wrong, don’t do it. Quite often, in a start-up business, you feel compelled to say yes to every project that presents itself. You’re scared that if you say no, you are permanently closing a door or that the work will dry up and that no new opportunities will come along.
I’m passionate about marketing, and one of the reasons I started this business was to deliver impact and value for my clients. I have learnt that in order to do so, I have to trust my gut and say no at times.
As a logical and strategic thinker, I am still working on this! But I know that I must stay focused on my clients, their objectives and the objectives of my own business.
Just keep swimming
Dsquared’s fifth year is looking exciting, with several key projects in progress. What’s for sure is that nothing is for certain, but as a group of associates, we will adapt and support our clients to maximise brand awareness and drive new business leads.
We work in partnership to position companies effectively, increasing their market presence and achieving a positive return on their marketing investment.
My mantra is to keep driving forward. so, I’ll finish with another fitting movie quote from Dory in Finding Nemo: “Just keep swimming”.
Here’s to the next chapter!
